The Medici Restaurant and Bakery
118 – 121 W. North Street

The Medici, located at the former site of Other Ports and the Village, is a new sit-down restaurant space complete with a large tree that serves a major architectural element in the building. The new building replicates the early twentieth century building that burned in the 1980s and was replaced by Other Ports. The storefront of the building to the west, formerly the Village, was restored to its 1940s façade and serves as the bakery portion of the Medici.

This development is an extension of a successful restaurant in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, known for its pizza and student-friendly atmosphere. The project was developed by Steinbach Inc., in partnership with the Town of Normal. Construction began in August 2006, and the restaurant officially opened for business in January 2008, followed by the bakery in March.
