National Preservation month was set up by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a private, nonprofit membership organization established in 1949 and dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America's communities.
National Preservation Month serves as a showcase for our country’s and our community's diverse and unique heritage. Plans are underway for the Normal Historic Preservation Commission's fourth annual local historic resource art contest. Students from participating schools will be learning about the history of their Town, what preservation is all about, and how they can partake in local preservation efforts. Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois Annual Conference in Normal
On June 8-10, 2006, the Town of Normal, along with the City of Bloomington and the Old House Society, hosted the 25th annual statewide conference of the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois (LPCI). The three-day series of workshops, seminars, tours and special events focused on preservation issues, challenges and successes facing communities across the state. The Town of Normal was featured on Friday, June 9th with an evening reception at Maggie Miley's, in the recently restored Odd Fellow's Building, 126 E. Beaufort, followed by a night at the Normal Theater. See below for photos:
