Meeting
August 15, 2006

1. Call to Order:
   Chairperson Evelyn Young called the meeting to order at 6:45 pm.
    
   1. Present: Chairperson Evelyn Young, Commissioner Terry Brown, Commissioner, Commissioner Michael Pullin, Commissioner Tim Harshbarger and Commissioner Ramesh Chaudhari
       
   2. Absent: Commissioner Laurie Bergner
       
   3. Others Present: Staff: Jennifer Hanna and Jose A'. Garibay
       
2. Approval of Minutes from May 16, 2006 Meeting
   Commissioners Brown and Fuller moved and seconded to approve the minutes from the April 18, 2006 meeting. With no further discussion the minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.
    
3. Complaint Review
   Staff informed the commission that there are no outstanding complaints on file. Jose A'. Garibay stated to the commission that he has reviewed 2 internal complaints from previous employees concerning racial discrimination and found no basis for the charges.
    
4. New Business
   1.  2007-08 Budget Approval
      Staff presented and explained the budget that will presented for approval to the budget committee and then to the Town Council. After questions Ramesh Chaudhari moved to approve the budget with a change to increase Community Diversity Training to $2000 due to the previous years spending. Michael Pullin Seconded the motion with no further questions the motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.
       
5. Old Business
   4. Human Relations Commission Code Revision Review
      Staff submitted the code revision to the commission for their final review. Commissioner Michael Pullin moved to approve the recommendation to amend Chapter 24, the Human Relations code, as presented by staff. Commissioner Terry Brown seconded the motion. With no further comment the motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.
       
6. Concerns
   Evelyn Young brought up that a council member was interested in naming a street after Rosa Parks but thought it might be better to name a park after her instead.
    
7. Adjournment
   Commissioner Terry Brown moved to adjourn the August 15, 2006 meeting of the Normal Human Relations Commission at 7:22 PM. Commissioner Ramesh Chaudhari seconded the motion. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
