WHO: Two current high school students at schools in Bloomington-Normal
SPONSORSHIP: Sister City Associations in Bloomington-Normal and Vladimir, Russia
EXCHANGE FEATURES:
- Opportunity to live with a Russian host family with an English-speaking teenager
- Joint social activities for Russian and American youth
- Dining with different ethnic families (Armenian, Georgian and Russian cuisine)
- Tours of historical sites and selected high schools
- Souvenir shopping in Vladimir area and in Moscow
CULTURAL/TOUR PROGRAM: (tentative schedule)
- guided day trips to:
Suzdal rural village (famous Golden Ring religious sites and museum of wooden architecture)
Bogolubobo (beautiful cathedral and convent near Vladimir)
Gus-Krustalny city (tour crystal factory and world-class museum of glass)
Moscow city center - tour of high schools (observe activities, interact with students, compare school systems)
- picnics to a lake near Vladimir and visits to Russian summer-houses (dachas)
- tour of Vladimir State Pedagogical University
- meeting with Vladimir Sister City families
ECONOMICAL COST:
Complete exchange package estimate of $1,460 ($1200 for airline ticket, $200 for Visa and $60 for medical insurance). While in Russia, transportation, lodging and most food is provided. Additional spending money of $200 is suggested. A Passport and Visa are required.
