TOWN OF NORMAL ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
REGULAR MEETING THURSDAY AUGUST 17, 2006@ 5:00 P.M.

Corporation Council Steve Mahrt, Office Associate Debbi Feid, Mercy Davison, Town Planner

Call to Order:

Vice-Chairman Anderson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and noted a quorum was present.

Minutes:

The minutes of the July 20, 2006 meeting were approved as submitted.

Public Hearings:

  1. Case No. 06-08-08-V: Accessory off-street parking in front yard, 15 Wilmette Drive.

    Mr. James Box, 11123 Highland Drive, Naperville, IL, was sworn in by Vice- Chairman Anderson.

    Mr. Box spoke saying he and this wife have recently purchased the home on Wilmette. Mr. Box said he would like to expand the single car driveway 7 feet to the front of the yard. Mr. Box said his would enable cars to maneuver easily in and out of the driveway.

    Mr. Box said he plans to landscape and plant some trees to screen the driveway addition.

    Mr. Harold Seiz, 810 Bryan St., Normal, IL was sworn in by Vice-Chairman Anderson. Mr. Seiz is a neighbor and is concerned about this property being a rental property. Mr. Seiz said he would rather have homeowners in this area  instead of students.

    Mr. Box replied he purchased this property for his son to live at while he is going college at Illinois State University. Mr. Box said the property was rented to a family from January to July 2, 2006.

    Mr. Tom Krause, 809 Bryan, Normal, IL, was sworn in by Vice-Chairman Anderson. Mr. Krause wondered why they needed a extended driveway if only one person is living there.

    Mr. Michael Frietsch, 808 Bryan Street, Normal, IL, was sworn in by Vice-Chairman Anderson. Mr. Frietsch said he had no problem with the applicant wanting to widen the driveway, but prefers that there isn’t college students living in this area.

    Mr. Dan Drane, #6 Wilmette Dr., Normal, IL, was sworn in by Vice-Chairman Anderson. Mr. Drane said he has lived in this area since 1990. Mr. Drane said he does not oppose the extended driveway. Mr. Drane said infact several residents on that street have done the same thing.

    There was no one else to speak regarding this application.

    Mr. Blakney moved to approve this variation request. Mr. Penn seconded.

    Ayes: Mr. Palmgren, Mr. Blakney, Ms. Lorenz, Mr. Penn, Ms. Brand, Mr. Anderson

    Nays: None
    Motion declared carried.

Other Business:

Ms. Davison spoke about the upcoming APA Meeting in October

Adjournment:

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned 5:28 p.m.
