Fell Park

East Willow Street

Fell Park is the oldest park in Normal and contains two acres. This landmark was set aside specifically as a park in the mid-1850s by Jesse Fell and several other co-owners.  The Town constructed a water tower in the park in 1898, in part to address water supply needs in times of emergency. The water tower has been the park’s most prominent visual feature over the years. The park underwent a major renovation in 2008. The exterior masonry of the century-old water tower was refurbished, a new shelter and a circular basketball court were constructed, the playground expanded, and the diagonal sidewalk was removed and replaced with brick pavers, along with a patio surrounding the tower. A central plaza was established as a monument to Jesse Fell. Decorative street lamps were also installed. Funding came from the Community Development Block Grant Funds.
