Senior Programs

Normal Township, with support from the Town of Normal, funds an activity program for seniors at the Community Activity Center, One Normal Plaza,1110 Douglas St., Normal. A wide variety of programs and activities are led by Jennifer Engelman, Seniors Program Director and her staff.

Peace Meal

For a Nutritious Meal and Socialization
These noon time meals are served Monday-Friday and are available for all persons 60 and over. Participants are served a delicious well–balanced meal containing at least 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirements. There is suggested donation of $3.00 for the meal. Reservations for meals should be made one day in advance. Transportation can be provided to and from the Activity Center for those in need. To make meal or transportation reservations call 888-9099 between the hours of 9:00-3:00pm

Gerontological Nurse Program

This service takes place in the Community Activity Center and is offered to help seniors with any medical questions they may have. This is a free informational and referral service offered for 60 years of age and older. This program is offered weekly according to the following schedule; Wednesday 12:30-2:30pm, Thursday 10:00-12:00pm

Cooperative Services

Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) With the YWCA/REVP program, counselors are available each month to help seniors with questions about medicare, medicare supplement, and long term care insurance.

Income Tax Assistance February 1 – April 15 persons age 60 and over can receive help in preparing their income taxes.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHeap) With PATH Senior Services, counselors are available during the month of October to assist income eligible adults with the application process.

Illinois Cares is during the months of March and April. PATH Senior Services counselors will assist income eligible adults with prescription drugs and license plates

Flu Shot Clinics are provided by the McLean County Health Department scheduled for a date in October.

Rules of the Road is provided by the YWCA/RSVP. Program trainers from the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office present a review course of current driving laws.

Cooperative Activities

Senior Citizen’s Day at the Normal Theater
In cooperation with the Town of Normal, the Township sponsors a special day for Senior Citizens at the historic Normal Theater. Seniors attending this special day receive reduced admission.

Seniors for Healthy Living
Monthly health education programs and screenings designed to age specific for seniors are offered through the cooperative efforts of the Seniors Program and Bromenn Regional Medical Center.
