Art Programs
Arts In the Park and Art Camp are offered during the summer. Arts in the Park is an art class that meets once a week for 8 weeks. The participants make 1 – 2 projects each week that they are able to bring home. This program takes place at 5 different parks throughout Normal. Art Camp is a one week camp that is currently taught by a local art instructor and is a specialized and more advanced art program. Participants usually take an in town field trip during the week. This program takes place at the Anderson Park west shelter.
Growing Gardeners
This eight week summer program is for children who enjoy gardening and would like to learn more about gardening and meet experts in the field. The program is for children entering 3rd – 5th grade and meets Tuesday/Thursday mornings. The participants have their very own garden to take care of during the summer and also go on several field trips visiting others gardens.
Eco-Adventures/McLean County Eco-Experience
During the summer the Normal Parks and Recreation Department partners with the Ecology Action Center and offers three week long camps. The focus of the camps is on the ecology and the different types of environments found in McLean County. The campers meet at the Ecology Action Center and are then transported by 15 passenger van to Comlara Park. Two of the weeks are geared towards participants ages 6 – 10 years and the third week is for ages 11 -14 years.
Children’s Theater
This eight week program introduces participants to various
theatrical areas including, music, make-up, dancing, set design
and building and the process of putting them all together in a
play/musical production at the end of the eight weeks. The
program meets three mornings a week and the grade requirement is
entering 2nd – 7th grade.
