  • Adult Flag Football will be offered this fall. Team registration begins September 2nd at 611 S. Linden. League play begins September 20-November 16. For more details go to: www.normal.org/Gov/ParksAndRec/leagues
  • Adult Tennis registration is underway for Fall. Lessons are for beginners as well as advanced players. Through the use of drills and games, participants will be challenged to work on the areas of their game that will make them a better player. Lessons will be given by Teaching Professional Joe Totten at Maxwell Park on Saturdays, 10-11:30 a.m. beginning September 6 thru October 11. Register at www.normal.org/go/webtrac
  • Adult Aerobics, Core Training, and Stretch & Tone class registrations are currently underway for the Fall session. www.normal.org/go/webtrac
  • NEW! YOUTH DANCE! Pre-Ballet l & ll, Ballet l & ll, and Creative Movement l & ll will be taught by Jennifer Hayden Pirtz.
    These classes are offered to 4yrs. thru teens. Classes meet on Tuesday or Thursday at the Community Activity Center and will begin September 2nd. Registration begins August 11.

  • VOLUNTEERS are needed for the Haunted Trail. If you are High School age and older, please consider this excellent volunteer opportunity. It takes many volunteers to make this event successful and fun. Interested groups and individuals can contact Kersten at kwilson@normal.org or call 454-9540.
  • Emerald Ash Borer Beetle....The Illinois Department of Agriculture has notified the City of Bloomington that the emerald ash borer beetle has been located within their city limits. There is no public health risk associated with the beetle, however it does threaten the community's ash tree population. The Town of Normal will work cooperatively with the City of Bloomington and State officials to develop a community plan in response to this finding.   • The Normal Theatre will host a “Youth Fest” Saturday, August 9th. Tickets are $6. Screening 1 begins at 7 pm and is 8 Short Films. Screening 2 begins at 9 pm and is 5 short films. For more information go to www.cicff.org.
  • FETCH!™  Lab
    The Children’s Discovery Museum will have free activities all summer long in their new FETCH Lab. Activities begin the week of June 7 and take place at both 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily. Activities are free with paid admission of $4 per person ages 2 and above. Children under 2 are free. See the museum website for a schedule of activities. www.ChildrensDiscoveryMuseum.net
  • Before School/After School Lottery Results
  • Anderson Aquatic Center will remain open 11-8pm thru August 17th. It will then be closed for the season.
  • Fairview Family Aquatic Center will be open noon – 8pm thru August 20th. Beginning August 21-29 FFAC will open 4-8pm (Aug. 21,22,25-29) and 12-8 on weekends ( Aug. 23,24,30,31,Sept. 1) Labor Day is the last day FFAC will be open for the season.
  • NEW to the Amphitheatre this summer…….Dress Up Movie Nights, Concerts, and stories told by the Twin City Tale Spinners. All events are Free. Check the Parks and Rec calendar for event dates and times. In addition see page 60 of the Parks and Rec Brochure.
  • The Fall/Winter/Spring Activity Brochure will be available on-line and will be mailed to all Normal residents in September.
  • Small Wonders Pre-School for 4-5 years begins January 7th for Fall 2008. A $150.00 deposit is required at the time of registration. See page 30 of the Parks and Recreation Brochure for details.
  • Rising Stars Pre-School for 3-4 years begins January 7th for Fall 2008. A $125.00 deposit is required at the time of registration. Please see page 30 of the Parks and Recreation Brochure for details.

The department offers 13 parks encompassing over 400 acres of parkland, an 18 hole golf course, a historically registered Theater, a Community Activity Center, 2 outdoor pools, a 10 field softball complex, the Children's Discovery Museum, and a 13 mile hard surfaced multi-use trail. This department also provides a well-rounded selection of programs and classes for Youth, Adults and Special Populations. These are just some of the great facilities and programs offered by the Town of Normal.

The facilities and programs are provided as an avenue to a higher quality of life for the citizens of our town and our welcomed visitors!

The function of the department is best summarized by the Director who stated, "we have programming targeted for all segments of the community, outstanding facilities, parks for all to enjoy, and family centered special events. The mission is to give the citizens of Normal a Parks and Recreation system they can be proud of".
