Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is organized into six integrated divisions for the implementation of the Town’s goals and objectives relating to basic environmental services and infrastructure. Those divisions include Administration, Street Maintenance, Sewer Maintenance, Waste Removal, Engineering and Equipment Maintenance.

A brief description of the function of each of these divisions is provided below:

Administration

The administration division provides organization, direction and coordination of the five operating divisions of the Public Works Department, including policies and procedures, personnel management, planning programs, budgeting, records management and reporting. This division is also responsible for departmental communications including public and media relations.

Street Maintenance

This division, the largest of the five, is responsible for the maintenance of streets, alleys, bridges and traffic control systems. This maintenance includes, but is not limited to repair, snow removal, ice control, street sweeping and street striping. In addition to these basic maintenance items, this division also collects, disposes and recycles residential brush, leaves and bulk waste. Read more about these services by making a selection above.

Equipment Maintenance

This division coordinates the routine maintenance and repair of the Town’s entire vehicle fleet and all major specialized units of equipment. This division also provides technical assistance in the preparation and evaluation of specifications and bidding documents associated with the purchase and replacement of all vehicles and equipment.

Engineering

The primary function of this division is to effectively organize, direct, implement and monitor the planning, designing, contracting and inspecting of all public work and private development projects for and within the Town. Read more about the Engineering Division here.

Waste Removal

This division performs the weekly curbside collection and disposal of residential household solid waste. In addition to this basic service, this division also collects solid waste from Town-owned facilities and trash containers in the Uptown business district, and manages the Town’s recycling program. Sewer Maintenance

This division maintains and repairs all public storm and sanitary sewers and appurtenances including, but not limited to, replacement, testing, cleaning and inspection of conduit, inlets, manholes and pump stations. Read more about the Sewer Maintenance Division here.
