Maxwell Park contains Champion Fields Softball Complex. The softball complex has 10 lighted fields that are divided into three areas. Each of the areas contain a concession stand and restrooms. The East and South fields have a press box. The East end has four fields with 300' fences and is where the department’s slow pitch leagues are held. The West end also has four fields with 225’ fence and is home to youth fast-pitch league play and weekend tournaments. The South end has two fields, with 275' fences and can accommodate slow pitch as well as fast pitch games. Champions Fields has played host to state, regional, national and world softball tournaments since 1989. Team USA Women’s Olympic Team will once again make its only stop in Illinois at Champion Fields June 14, 2008.
Champion Fields was prepared for seating in excess of 4000 during
the
summer of 2004 when the Team USA
Women's Olympic Team played
an exhibition game against the Lady
Hearts.
