- 4th of July Celebrations. Begin the day with an early bird swim at both Fairview and Anderson Aquatic Centers. The party begins at 9a.m. to 10:30a.m. Children 15 and younger and season passholders are Free and Adults 16 and over $1. Special giveaways are available to children who attend the birthday celebration. Birthday cake and ice cream will be served at the end of the party while supply lasts. The pools will be cleared at 10:30a.m. and will re-open at 11:00a.m. The pools will also celebrate our nation’s birthday with activities, trivia and prizes between 11a.m. and 5p.m.! Expect a visit from Uncle Sam! The first 150 children will receive a special patriotic gift. In the evening bring your blanket, radio and the family for the annual Sky Concert in Fairview Park. Fireworks begin at dusk and will be set to music on WJBC AM 1230. Come early and enjoy the Pre-Fireworks concert featuring “Bygones” at 6 p.m. The Sky Concert is sponsored by Normal Parks and Recreation Department, State Farm Insurance and WJBC.
- Class Cancellations on Rec-Line, 433-3434. For up-to-date information on cancellations and special events, call Rec-Line. Swim lesson cancellations will be made ONLY in the event of SEVERE weather. Because Illinois weather can change quickly, classes will be cancelled approximately 15 minutes before each class starts. Cancellations for the entire morning of swim lessons are rarely made. Any class cancellations will be made up the last Friday of the session.
- The Connie Link Amphitheatre will be the host to Free Concerts throughout the summer. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy the Sounds of the Amphitheatre. Parking is available in the 611 S. Linden parking lot and the apartment parking lot across the street from the 611 lot. The amphitheatre is also accessible from the Constitution Trail. So, be sure to stop as you walk, run, or bike the trail. The Brian Choban Jazz Quintet will perform Thursday, July 9th, 6 to 8 p.m. The Adam Larson Quintet will perform Saturday, July 11th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- The Twin City Tale Spinners will be telling great Stories at the Connie Link Amphitheatre. This is a FREE program for pre-school and grade school aged children. A snack and craft is included. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Come and listen to “Forest Stories” on Thursday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. and “Boat Stories” on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
- The High School Summer Theatre production of Sound of Music will be performed in the Connie Link Amphitheatre on July 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, & 26. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. The amphitheatre is located at 611 S. Linden just south of the parking lot and behind the Maintenance Building. Parking is available in the apartment lot across the street from the 611 parking lot and additional parking is available in the grassy area of Underwood Park just south of the trail bridge that goes over Linden. Admission is $4 adults/$2 students/Seniors and children under the age of 5 are free. Concessions are available and very reasonably priced.
- The Chicago Cubs take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, July 11th at Wrigley Field. Charter buses will depart from Normal at 10:30 a.m. for a 3:05 p.m. game. Cost is $75 per person with a limit of 2 tickets per person. Tickets are still available.
- Dress Up Movie Nights are back at the Connie Link Amphitheatre beginning at dusk on Tuesday July 28th. The feature presentation will be Jimmy Neutron. Feel free to dress up as your favorite movie character or bring your favorite prop from the movie. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on the grassy terrace and enjoy watching the movie under the stars. Popcorn, soda, and water will be sold for $1. This is a FREE family event.
- Park Shelter & Ball Diamond Reservations begin March 2nd. Park shelters and ball diamonds are reservable at no cost March through October. Reservations must be made in person at the Parks and Rec office, 611 S. Linden St., 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., M-F.
- Teens 16 and older who are interested in Lifeguarding must complete an Ellis Certification Course. Classes being offered July 13,14,15,16,17. Applications are currently being accepted.
- Preschool registration for the 2009-10 Rising Stars and Small Wonders is currently underway. A non-refundable $150 deposit is required at the time of registration. The deposit will be applied towards your program fee. Please see page 72 in the Parks and Rec Brochure for more details.

- Emerald Ash Borer Beetle....The Illinois Department of Agriculture has notified the
City of Bloomington that the emerald ash borer beetle has
been located within their city limits. There is no public
health risk associated with the beetle, however it does
threaten the community's ash tree population. The Town of
Normal will work cooperatively with the City of Bloomington
and State officials to develop a community plan in response

The department offers 13 parks encompassing over 400 acres of parkland, an 18 hole golf course, a historically registered Theater, a Community Activity Center, 2 outdoor pools, a 10 field softball complex, the Children's Discovery Museum, and a 13 mile hard surfaced multi-use trail. This department also provides a well-rounded selection of programs and classes for Youth, Adults and Special Populations. These are just some of the great facilities and programs offered by the Town of Normal.

The facilities and programs are provided as an avenue to a higher quality of life for the citizens of our town and our welcomed visitors!
