Mailboxes

Mailboxes at the edge of the road should be located so that the bottom of the box is 48" above the surface of the pavement or 42" above the top of the curb, and that the front of the box is 3" behind the back of the curb. Mailbox support structures cannot be larger than 4" x 4" or 4-1/2" diameter wood posts or 2" diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe buried no more than 24" in the ground. No bricks, posts, or supporting structures are allowed. Any ornamental designs must have prior approval form the Public Works Director. If your mailbox is damaged during snow removal call Public Works at (309) 454-9571 or (309) 454-9578. Repairs will be made at the earliest time possible or, if necessary, you will receive compensation toward a replacement mailbox. Please relocate your mailbox if it does not meet these standards. Mailboxes damaged during snow removal that do not meet the above standards will not be replaced.
