Town of Normal Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
NORMAL, ILLINOIS - November 21,2008 The Town of Normal recently launched a bicycle and pedestrian master planning effort to improve the community's walking and bicycling environment The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan will lay out short-term and long-term strategies to make walking and cycling safe, convenient, and attractive travel modes.. The document will contain a list of recommended bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure projects, including trails, on-street bikeways, sidewalks and "end-of-trip facilities" such as bike parking. The Plan will also include programmatic measures such as safety education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation strategies.
The Town will host the Master Plan's first community workshop on Wednesday, December 10, 6:30 PM in Normal Public Library's Community Room located at 206 W College Avenue in Normal The workshop will start with a brief presentation describing the Master Plan's purpose, schedule, and expected outcomes In a mapping exercise and group discussion, meeting participants will be encouraged to discuss existing walking/bicycling conditions, identify system needs, and offer suggestions for improvements. The workshop is the first of several public outreach events to be held throughout the project's duration.
