Twin City Teen Council

The Teen Council provides local junior high and high school students an opportunity to help plan educational, volunteer and recreational events for teens in the community. Teen Council events are planned by teens, for teens. The Teen Council meets once a month on the third Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Locations vary so give us a call or email to find out where the meeting will be held. So if you have an interest in learning a bit about local government or if you have ideas for new activities and programs give us a call today. Teens R Normal

Teens R Normal are events for teens in grades 6-12. These events include bus trips to places like Six Flags, Challenge Park Extreme Paintball, Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort, Magic Waters, Woodfield Mall/Game Works, Turkey Run State Park and more. In addition, Teens R Normal also hosts Video Game Fests, Battle of the Bands, Teen Hip Hop, etc. Please see the Parks and Recreation Program Guide for a detailed schedule of events.

Jr. High Boy’s Basketball

Jr. High Boy’s Basketball is a six-week recreation program offered to 6th and 7th graders in the fall who are not playing on their school’s teams. Teams practice once a week on a Tuesday or Thursday night for the first 3 weeks of the season and play a Saturday game every week. Refer to the Program Guide for more information.

Teen Adventure Camp

This cam p is available to all students entering 7th through 9th grades. Three two-week sessions will be offered throughout the summer. Activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, water parks, canoeing, swimming, cooking, teen-oriented art projects, and team building activities. Indoor activities include ice skating, Chuck-E-Cheese trips, movies and bowling will be substituted in the event of inclement weather. Activities will vary throughout each two week session. Children’s Theater

Children’s Theater is an eight week program introducing participants to various theatrical areas including, music, make-up, dancing, set design and building and the process of putting them all together in a play/musical production at the end of the eight weeks. The program meets three mornings a week and the grade requirement is entering 2nd – 7th grade.

High School Summer Theatre

High School Summer Theatre provides an excellent opportunity for teens to express themselves and use their talents as part of the cast of a summer production. All teens entering 8th grade thru 12th grade are welcome to try out. See the Program Guide for try out dates.

McLean County Eco-Experience

McLean County Eco-Experience is a one week day camp sponsored by the Ecology Action Center and the Normal Parks and Recreation Department. This program is offered to ages 11-14. The focus is on the ecology of different types of environments found in McLean County. Some of the different topics studied include the tall grass prairie, the forest and urban ecology. The campers will also engage in outdoor team building activities, learn about orienteering and explore some basic outdoor skills. Camp meets at the Ecology Action Center. Refer to the Program Guide for dates.

Aquatics

Aquatics for teens offers swim lessons, scuba classes, lifeguard training, and swim team. See Program Guide for details.

Teen Tennis Hitting Clinic

Teen Tennis Hitting Clinic is offered to teens in 7th thru 12th grades in the fall. This clinic uses drill, activities and games to stress tennis fundamentals. This clinic is designed to be challenging, yet fun and exciting for those who really enjoy tennis. Refer to the Program Guide for more information.

Challenge Fridays – Tennis

Challenge Fridays – Tennis is offered to boys and girls ages 10-15 who are interested in playing matches against others in their same age and skill level. While the focus is on games, staff will be available to help discuss game strategies, give some instruction, and help with court rulings. A tennis tournament will be held on the final Friday. This class meets for 1 ½ hrs. each Friday morning in the summer for 4 weeks. Two 4 week sessions are offered. See the Program Guide for more information.

Junior and Advanced Golf Academy

Junior and Advanced Golf Academy helps teens age 11 – 17 improve learn and/or improve their golfing skills. This is offered in June and July and under the direction of Ironwood Golf Professional Craig Onsrud. See Program Guide for more information.

Disc Golf Clinic

Disc Golf Clinic is a one day clinic that meets at Maxwell Park for 2 ½ hrs. on a Saturday morning. This clinic is offered to teens 13 and older during the summer. Each clinic includes throwing techniques for driving and putting, rules, and the opportunity to play the course with supervision. Participants are encouraged to furnish their own discs but discs will be available to borrow if needed. See Program Guide for more information.

Teens N Greens

Teens N Greens is a program open to teens in grades 6-12. Teens have a great time traveling to a different golf course each week throughout the summer where they will shoot nine holes and then head to a local restaurant for lunch. Refer to Program Guide for dates.
