  • Register now for a Phone Call from Santa for your 2-12 yr. old. Normal Parks and Recreation has reached an agreement with Santa Claus’ North Pole Headquarters to arrange a phone call from Santa Claus. Parents interested in having Santa call their children must register by calling 454-9723 between 9 – 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday. Santa will make calls between 6 and 8 pm on Monday, December 8th and Wednesday, December 10th. Santa is unable to return calls to children who are not home so be sure to schedule a time that you know your children will be home. There is no charge for this service and phone calls will be limited to two or three minutes in length.
  • Teens let your creative side shine as you make and decorate a few types of holiday cookies and candies that you will be able to package and give to friends and family as great holiday gifts. Cookie and Candy Creations will take place at Miller Park Pavilion, Sunday, December 14th, 1:30-4:30 p.m., $30. Deadline to register is December 5th.
  • Adult Drop-in Basketball will begin Wednesday, November 5th, 7-9p.m at Chiddix Jr. High School. Pick up games will be played each Wednesday thru March 12 except for days that Unit 5 is out of school. The fee is $2 per evening or $20 for a season pass. Money will be collected on-site.
  • Ironwood Golf Course is hosting the 14th annual “Will Golf 4 Kids” Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by Schnucks and Ironwood Golf Course. This Fun event is a four-person best position event. Twelve to fifteen turkeys will be awarded in various categories. A generous portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Baby Fold. Shotgun Start is 10 a.m., November 22nd, $120 per team (includes cart). Call Ironwood Golf Course today to register your team. 454-9620.
  • Breakfast with Santa registration begins November 3rd for residents and November 5th for non-residents. This event is held at the Community Activity Center on December 6, 7, or 13th, 9-10 a.m. Santa is the center of attention as families enjoy a buffet breakfast and children sing carols and visit with Santa. A picture with Santa and a goodie bag will be given to each child. Fee: $8 per person. Please let us know in advance if you would like to be seated with another family.
  • Families on the Go will be taking a trip to Festival of Lights/Avanti's in E. Peoria on Sunday Dec. 21st. The bus will depart from the Anderson Park East parking lot at 4:30pm and return at 9pm. The Fee is $15 per person. Registration is currently underway for this Fun Family activity.
  • Dress Up Movies come indoors for the winter! Come to the Historic Normal Theatre in UpTown Normal on Saturday, January 3rd, 1:00pm and enjoy the Feature Film “Matilda”. This is a FREE family event. Dress up in a costume portraying a character in the movie and receive a prize. Doors open at 12:30 pm. Concessions available for $1 and $2.
  • Registration for Grade School Basketball is currently underway. Boys and girls in 1st-5th grades can participate in this eight-week program that takes place in various unit five grade schools. Teams will practice for one hour once a week on Tuesday or Thursday and play a game every Saturday morning. The season begins January 13th. The fee is $60. Please complete the attached registration form and fax, mail, or drop off to the Parks and Rec Office at 611 S. Linden St.
  • Swim Lesson Registration is currently underway for all 4 sessions of Fall/Winter/Spring lessons. Lessons take place on Monday and Wednesdays between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Lessons are offered to 6 month old thru Adults. For more information, refer to pg. 33 of the Parks and Recreation Brochure.

  • NEW! YOUTH DANCE! Pre-Ballet l & ll, Ballet l & ll, and Creative Movement l & ll will be taught by Jennifer Hayden Pirtz.
    These classes are offered to 4yrs. thru teens. Classes meet on Tuesday or Thursday at the Community Activity Center. Registration for the January session begins December 1st.

  • Emerald Ash Borer Beetle....The Illinois Department of Agriculture has notified the City of Bloomington that the emerald ash borer beetle has been located within their city limits. There is no public health risk associated with the beetle, however it does threaten the community's ash tree population. The Town of Normal will work cooperatively with the City of Bloomington and State officials to develop a community plan in response to this finding. The department offers 13 parks encompassing over 400 acres of parkland, an 18 hole golf course, a historically registered Theater, a Community Activity Center, 2 outdoor pools, a 10 field softball complex, the Children's Discovery Museum, and a 13 mile hard surfaced multi-use trail. This department also provides a well-rounded selection of programs and classes for Youth, Adults and Special Populations. These are just some of the great facilities and programs offered by the Town of Normal.

You can use the Town's WebTrac system to register for activities, view your account history, print receipts and reserve tee times at Ironwood Golf Course.

The facilities and programs are provided as an avenue to a higher quality of life for the citizens of our town and our welcomed visitors!

The function of the department is best summarized by the Director who stated, "we have programming targeted for all segments of the community, outstanding facilities, parks for all to enjoy, and family centered special events. The mission is to give the citizens of Normal a Parks and Recreation system they can be proud of".
