Opened in July of 2012, Uptown Station serves as a multimodal transportation center creating a centralized transportation hub, connecting the community's aviation, rail, bus, automobile, and pedestrian facilities.

Normal is located in the heart of Illinois along a major rail corridor between Chicago and St. Louis, and at the interstection of three interstate highways (I-55, I-74 and I-39), resulting in high levels of intercity bus traffic. Uptown Station is less than four miles from the Central Illinois Regional Airport, and the station's location strategically sits on the primary leg of a heavily used 30-plus-mile dedicated bicycle and pedestrian pathway connecting Normal with Bloomington.

The station's upper floors serve as the Town of Normal's City Hall and Council Chambers.
