Marriott Hotel & Conference Center Groundbreaking Video [WMV] (3.4MB)
The Town of Normal is partnering on the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center project with John Q. Hammons, who is widely recognized as the leading independent developer and owner of full service upscale hotels, resorts, and suites. Mr. Hammons has been developing hotels for over 50 years and currently has more than 50 hotels across the United States.
The 9 story hotel will be owned and operated by Mr. Hammons and will have 229 rooms as well as amenities such as a pool, restaurant, fitness center, business center, and concierge service. The attached conference center will be owned by the Town of Normal and includes over 43,000 square feet of usable space. The conference center will be connected to the historic Normal Theater, which will present guests with unique entertainment and meeting opportunities.
A 500 space parking deck is being built just south of the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The deck will accommodate all hotel guests and it will also include parking for other uptown patrons. A skywalk across Beaufort Street will provide a climate controlled walkway between the hotel and the parking deck.
On December 11, 2006, Mr. Hammons awarded a construction contract for the project to Core Construction. Core mobilized on the site on December 13th, and work is anticipated to last through 2007 and 2008. The hotel is expected to open its doors for business in mid 2009.
