2006
December 13 - Beaufort Street between Fell Avenue and Vernon Avenue will be closed to through traffic for approximately three weeks beginning Monday, December 18, 2006. This closure is required for utility line installations for the new Illinois State University chiller plant located on Beaufort Street across from Watterson Towers. Access to local businesses and campus facilities will be maintained.
December 11 - Developer John Q. Hammons awards a construction contract to CORE Construction for the Marriott hotel and conference center project.
November - Ewe Knit opens at 107 Broadway
November 20 - Downtown Normal officially becomes "Uptown" Normal

October 30 - New trains are added to the St. Louis-Chicago rail corridor, resulting in five daily roundtrips from the uptown Normal Amtrak station

April 6 - The Town of Normal will conduct an Open House Public Hearing on April 24, 2006 to provide information and solicit public comments regarding the Uptown Normal Circular Intersection, and Associated Roadway Improvements project in Normal.
