Bulky Waste

Bulky waste refers to large items that cannot fit into your garbage cart. Bulky waste is collected each week on your regular garbage collection day.

Instructions for Collection

  • Large cardboard boxes should be flattened first and NOT placed between your carts.
  • The total weight of items placed at the curb should be no more than 500 lbs. A private waste collection contractor should be contacted for larger amounts.
  • Items should be placed loose at the curb and not in a box or non-Town garbage cart/can.
  • Place bulky waste curbside after 6:00 pm the day prior to collection or before 6:00 am on your regular collection day.
  • On sloped right of ways, place bulky waste lengthwise or parallel to the street. This helps the operator pick up the items with little or no damage to the right of way.
  • Place bulky waste in one organized pile and not in separate piles, stacking in a way to reduce the chances of any wind disturbing the pile.
NOTE: Please contact us ahead of time if you plan on disposing of glass and/or mirrors.   A scheduled 'Hand Pickup' may be required.

Items that should not be included in bulky waste:

  • Bags of garbage - bags of garbage should be placed in a Town-issued garbage cart.
  • Construction waste totaling more than 500 lbs. (get a commercial dumpster) or any construction waste from work done by contractors (they should haul away).
  • Waste weighing more than 500 lbs. (get a commercial dumpster).
  • Electronics - state law requires certain electronics be recycled (i.e televisions, stereos, computer equipment). See the Electronics Recycling page for a complete list.
  • Landscape Waste such as leaves and plant clippings (set out separately - see Landscape Waste Collection for guidelines).
  • Brush ( sticks, branches, and bush clippings). Please set them in their own pile.
